Call for Innovative Health and Nutrition Research Proposal
Criteria for funding will include:
- the quality of the proposed research;
- relatedness to the CHNR theme of food derived micronutrients, phytochemicals, and bioactive food constituents roles in the prevention of chronic diseases;
- the research record of the research team;
- likelihood of subsequent follow-on funding.
The CHNR pilot project grant process involves:
Letter of Intent Deadline: Tuesday, January 16, 2007, by 5 p.m. (PST). This initial submission should be a one-page letter of intent that outlining the proposed research project and funding. Letters should be sent to: CHNR via either e-mail: CHNR@ucdavis.edu or by mail: CNHR Pilot Studies, Department of Nutrition, Meyer Hall, University of California Davis, Davis CA 95616. Those submitting their letters via email will receive an email confirmation of receipt.
Notification for all letters of intent by Monday, February 5, 2007. The letter of intent will be reviewed and full proposals will be requested from investigators when the proposed project is considered to meet all above criteria and to have high merit.
- Submission of full proposal by Monday, March 12, 2007 at 5 p.m. (PST). This submission should be 10 pages maximum including table, figures, and references, accompanied by a one page spreadsheet along with a half page of budget justification.
The full proposal should include the following: Project title, overall goal, specific aims, methodology or data source, experimental design, along with a one page budget spreadsheet and a half page of budget justification and a half page delineating future plans for follow-up and funding upon completion of grant awarded.
Grants of up to $50,000 total direct cost per year for up to two years ($100,000) will be awarded. By CHNR policy no indirect cost monies will be awarded. Investigators who apply who are new researchers in this area will be expected to have an experienced nutrition related researcher named in the proposal. Applications not meeting the guidelines will not be reviewed. Funds can be used to support a pre- or postdoctoral fellow, a research assistant, or to purchase supplies or equipment. Postdoctoral fellows are eligible for the P/F awards, subject to their campus' investigator policies. Established researchers in nutrition or other fields, with an interest in nutrition research may apply. The principle investigator must be a California resident or formally affiliated with a California entity that has a visible organized research component.
Proposals are due by Monday, March 12, 2007 at 5 p.m. (PST).
