CONTRACTORS

Contractors are licensed and regulated by the Contractors State License Board. The board handles complaints about fraud, misrepresentation, failing to complete contracted work, failing to maintain required records, working without proper licensing, and withholding money from subcontractors.

The term "contractor" includes those individuals or firms that offer services to improve real property, including, but not limited to, home building, remodeling, room additions, swimming pools, painting, roofing, landscaping, plumbing, electrical, heating and air conditioning, and installation and repair of mobile homes.

If you have a complaint against a contractor, contact the CSLB. Complaints must be filed in writing. The Board’s standard complaint form may be obtained by calling 1-800-321-CSLB; writing to P.O. Box 269116, Sacramento, CA 95827; or via Internet at: http://www.cslb.ca.gov/Resources/forms-and-applications/consumer-complaint-form.pdf.

When you have filled out the complaint form, you can print it and attach copies of contracts, canceled checks or other information pertinent to your complaint and mail it to one of the following addresses:
