Attorney General Jerry Brown brought new priorities to the Department of Justice that included important public issues such as combating global warming and launching a Green Office to lessen our impact on the environment.
The Attorney General is leading California's effort to combat the serious problem of global warming. Under his leadership, the Department has made important progress in addressing the problem:
The Department is an environmentally friendly workplace, committed to sustainable business practices that reduce carbon emissions and wasteful practices, promote a better environment, and protect it for future generations.
The Green Office’s Recycling Program is a key component of DOJ’s efforts to promote sustainable environments at work and home.
The Attorney General also vigorously pursues violators of Proposition 65, also called the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986.
He both enforces and defends Proposition 65, which prohibits contaminated or illegal discharge from fouling our sources of drinking water; it also protects the public from undisclosed exposures to toxins and carcinogens.
The Attorney General enforces all environmental laws in the state and protects the State's natural resources. He has taken action to protect our air quality, to prevent water pollution, to clean up contamination from toxic chemicals, and to preserve the natural resources and wildlife on national forest lands.
